How do I prepare my files for print?

In the printing industry, we define print-ready files to mean that the file you are sending us is ready to go straight to our printer – without any changes or adjustments needed. The following is a list of attributes that any print-ready file must have:

Final file – No additional designing is needed.
0.125″ bleed on every edge
0.125″ space between edge of paper and information
300 dpi resolution (if not, artwork may not print clearly)
Actual size (format 1:1)
CMYK color mode (if not, colors may change slightly during print)
Embedded fonts or fonts outlined to curves

What file format do I need?

The absolute best format you can supply to us is a PDF. Almost any program you use for designing should have the option for you to save your file or export your file as a PDF. When exporting, make sure you select the option for best quality and to include bleed. We also accept EPS, AI, JPEG, TIFF, and PSD formats.

In the case where we are required to make adjustments to your file in order for it to be “print-ready”, there may be extra charges incurred. We will consult with you before making these adjustments. What is bleed?

Bleed is the extra image area added to the edge of your artwork – outside of the trim/cut size. This means that the file you send to us is slightly bigger than the final size of the item.

Bleed is required if your background or pictures extend to the edge of the page. When our production department trims the job, the bleed ensures that the image or background of your design goes right to the edge of the page. However, if it doesn’t, your document ends up with a white border. The image below illustrates how your file should be setup. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us directly.
